NBA All Star Games ~  The 2010 NBA All-Star game was the largest event in NBA history. Over 95,000 people filled the new Cowboys Stadium in Dallas Texas to watch the game. Related events at the nearby American Airlines Center took place throughout the weekend, requiring Security Detection to set up more than twice the number of security metal detectors normally needed for this event: 192 walkthrough metal detectors in all.

The key challenge this year arose not from the volume of equipment or multiple venues, however. Security Detection successfully transported to Dallas all of the metal detectors that had been used the previous weekend at the Super Bowl in Miami. Security Detection staff began dismantling its equipment in Miami on Monday morning, and had everything unpacked and ready for setup in Dallas on Wednesday. Throughout the weekend, security at each stadium went smoothly, and on Sunday nearly 100,000 people were safely and effectively screened for the marquis event.

Dalai Lama's U.S. Visits ~ The estimable Dalai Lama has visited the United States many times over the past several years, and each time his security detail has contacted Security Detection.

We had the privilege of providing metal detection services for speaking events featuring the Dalai Lama in Hawaii, Massachusetts, Texas, Arizona, Washington, D.C., Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New York.

These events typically host between 1,000 and 3,000 people, including media. Attendees often carry laptop computers or video cameras, and the Dalai Lama's broad appeal tends to attract a diverse crowd who don everything from Buddhist robes to business suits. Given the sensitive political subject matter surrounding the Dalai Lama, his security and protection, and that of his audiences, are paramount.

The largest of the Dalai Lama's recent events took place on November 12, 2005 in Washington, D.C. There were two venues that Security Detection was charged with securing: the sprawling Washington Convention Center, where the Dalai Lama was taking part in a two-day symposium, and a hotel where the Dalai Lama was staying and delivering a speech to a much smaller crowd.

Security Detection assembled and supervised twelve walkthrough metal detectors at the Convention Center and one at the hotel for the Dalai Lama's presentations. Event organizers at the Convention Center stressed their desire for attendees to be able to exit the event through the same entrance by which they entered, unencumbered by security equipment. Security Detection was prepared and able to comply, completely breaking down and removing all twelve units by the time the event had concluded.

NASA ~ For the final launch of the space shuttle Discovery, Kennedy Space Center hired Security Detection Metal Detectors to provide flawless event security screening equipment.

All NASA shuttle launches attract a large crowd, but this special event attracted more attendees than normal. To provide the additional security checkpoints required, Kennedy Space Center reached out to Security Detection – the first time that the Space Center had worked with an outside security vendor.

From our offices in Orlando, FL Security Detection delivered to Cape Canaveral, then assembled and calibrated ten Garrett PD 6500i Multi-Zone Walk-Through Metal Detectors and ten Garrett SuperScanners.

The Garrett PD 6500i is an advanced, versatile and highly sensitive security metal detector used to pinpoint the exact location of concealed weapons and other contraband. The Garrett SuperScanner wands are extremely effective devices used to provide additional security screening. No illicit objects were discovered during the shuttle launch.

Pan Am Games ~ Security Detection was chosen by the Federal Police of Mexico to supply detection devices and crowd security expertise at the 16th Pan American Games, an international multi-sport event held in and around Guadalajara in October, 2011. The games attracted more than six thousand athletes from 42 Western Hemisphere countries as well as one million spectators.

Technicians from the Security Detection U.S. and Guadalajara offices supervised the use of 270 walkthrough metal detectors, handheld security wands and 46 security X-ray machines. These were used at the sprawling athletes' village and at 31 indoor and outdoor venues throughout Guadalajara and in the nearby cities of Ciudad Guzman, Puerto Vallarta, Lagos de Moreno, and Tapalpa.

Security Detection was also tasked with screening visitors and their luggage at nine bustling visitor hotels.

"This was a major undertaking that presented enormous logistical challenges, "said Randy Smith, Security Detection's western region president. "To complicate matters, the ongoing Mexican drug war had some countries, including the United States and Canada, expressing concerns about the safety and security of the region."

Smith enthusiastically points out that the entire spectacle - including the screening of 70,000 spectators prior to the opening and closing ceremonies in Guadalajara - proceeded without a hitch.

Universal Studios ~ Universal Studios in Orlando, FL hired Security Detection in September 2010 to secure the park's main entrance for their popular and heavily attended Halloween Horror Nights.

Over a period of 45 days, Security Detection provided 20 walk through metal detectors and 20 hand-held security wands to help secure the park. A staff technician worked on-site each night to assist the client with any questions or issues that arose. The security metal detectors are designed to detect contraband and weapons - and deter people from attempting to bring these items to an event. No illicit weapons were detected during Halloween Horror Nights.

NFL Super Bowl ~ The Super Bowl is one of the only U.S. sporting events to receive Level 1 National Security status from the Department of Homeland Security, the same status as official Presidential events. The NFL is a highly organized and extremely professional client. Security at the game must be flawless and impenetrable, and Security Detection knows how to accomplish that. Broadcast to millions of viewers around the world, the Super Bowl is an obvious target for terrorists. Security Detection is proud to be part of the team that has provided football fans with safe and secure Super Bowls for the past several years.
